ESPN: Key player reinstated by the Padres after a 60-day IL…
Joe Musgrove was added back to the Padres’ 60-day injury list as anticipated, and he will start the game against the Pirates on Monday. Carl Edwards Jr., a reliever, was designated for assignment by San Diego in order to create room on the 40-man and active squads. Musgrove’s elbow irritation has kept him out of action since the end of May. This was his second stay in IL this season due to an elbow injury. Due to the injuries, he hasn’t been the same player, posting a 5.66 ERA in 10 starts. His fastball average of 92.4 mph was a little lower than it was the previous season (93.1 mph). Rivals teed off against his cutter and four-seam. Musgrove’s strikeout percentage dropped to 20.6%, the lowest level in six seasons, and he let up almost two home runs every nine innings.
